Fireplace Usage & Care Guide

Thank you for choosing Multifire. To get the best performance and longevity from your fireplace, please take note of the key usage, setup, and maintenance guidelines below. We also recommend reviewing the manual included with your unit.

Getting Started – Important Usage Notes

  • Use Only Dry, Seasoned Wood: Moisture content must be under 20%.
  • Burn-In Procedure: For the first 5 fires, operate the unit at 50% output and burn continuously for at least 4 hours.
  • Leave the door slightly ajar during early burns to let the fire rope set.
  • Do not place any items on the stove surface at any time.
  • A slight smell or smoke during the first few uses is normal as protective coatings cure.

Lighting the Fire – Top-Down Method

  1. Place two large logs parallel at the bottom of the firebox.
  2. Stack medium-sized logs perpendicular above the base logs.
  3. Add kindling and firelighters on the top layer.
  4. Open all air vents. Leave the door slightly ajar until flames are stable.
  5. After 15–20 minutes, seal the door and adjust the airflow as needed.

Wood Selection, Storage & Seasoning

  • Store wood off the ground in a criss-cross stack to promote airflow.
  • Season wood for 8–18 months before burning. Split wood dries faster.
  • Avoid burning painted, treated, or salty wood (e.g. beach wood).
  • Check for seasoned wood by weight, colour, cracks, loose bark, and sound. Dry wood makes a sharp “clack”; wet wood sounds dull.
  • Use a moisture meter—ideal wood reads between 10% and 20%.

Best Practices to Protect Your Fireplace

  • Use gloves when loading wood to protect yourself and the unit.
  • Do not overload the firebox or let logs rest against the glass.
  • Clean the ash pan and air channels regularly.
  • Never place objects on the stove or obstruct airflow areas.

If Your Fireplace Has an Automatic Fan

  • Ensure the fan is plugged in and switched on at all times.
  • Use the dial to manually set speed or leave on automatic mode.

Ongoing Maintenance

  • Excessive glass blackening indicates damp wood—ensure dryness.
  • Service your fireplace annually for efficiency and safety.
  • Waterproof your flue or chimney yearly per installer recommendations.
  • Regularly check air controls, door seals, and the flue system.
